REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING December 2, 2004       4:00 P.M.

 

The regular membership meeting was held on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. with Larry West presiding.

 

The 67 members present paid their respects to the flag.

 

Prayer was held for the membership and for the local.

 

Roll call was taken with John Ballard Jr., Darryl Cook, Randy Herbert, Dan Palmer absent, Dale Shafner, Ed Potter, Tim Stuck on vacation.  Steve Hubbard and Tracy Kelly working.

 

Motion made and seconded to dispense with the reading of the October membership minutes, subject to question.

 

Motion carried.

 

Motion made and seconded to approve the December executive board minutes as read and recommendations therein, subject to question.

 

Recommendations:

 

Sending the three top officers and two shop committeemen to the February Conference Board.

 

After discussion, a vote was taken with 40 yes votes and 14 no votes.

 

Motion carried.

 

REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN, KEITH BAILEY:

 

Reported on the status of the grievance procedure.

Reported on the Gm visit to the Kettering plant by Bo Anderson.  Praised Paul Hegwood for doing such a wonderful job on selling the plan.  On the hourly side, Bill Thomas and Dale Shafner worked jointly with  Dick Bishop and Greg Cole in an attempt to get the GMT 361 and 371.  If he got the whole business it would be 100 jobs.  If we just got the modulization, it would be 40 jobs.

 

Reported that Jim Clark made the visit happen.  Delphi will be submitting a quote to GM on December 10th and we will be looking for an answer sometime in Mid January on 2005.

 

Reported that the newspaper article about combining plants here locally. That has nothing to do with our plant.

 

Reported on COLA.  Traditional employees will get 5 cents and tier 2 will receive 7 cents.

 

Reported on the up and coming Christmas party in December.  We have 115 signed up and the deadline is Friday.

 

Reported on handling VR at third step. Minutes have been exchanged.

 

Keith reaffirmed that he is not going to the International.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, DAVID HILL:

 

Reported on the new insurance for GM retirees called active care.  Reported that the retirees are coming in in droves.  Kim and Dave are being overwhelmed with questions due to the vagueness in the literature that GM sent out to the retirees.

 

Reported that through late December, the EBPC is working on forms A and B for first time eligible incentive retirements.

 

Reported on why the pre-retirement class had to be cancelled.  We will try to reschedule it as time permits.

 

The JAC is working on a nationwide retirement class. Brian Woolum will be attending it for our Local.

 

Reported that David Hill and Larry West will be attending a Premier Health meeting over the contract problems they are having.

 

Reported on the social security article in last Sunday’s paper about how President Bush is going full steam ahead to privatize some if not all of social security.

REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT, LARRY WEST:

 

Reported that he is making some changes to help the financial situation at the Union hall.  Reported that he took a poll in support of his changes and it was unanimous in favor.

 

Reported that we have another employee, named Steve Griffin, who is doing his tour in Iraq and offered prayers for him and his family.

 

Reported that right now the auditor is doing his yearly audit of our books and has found everything to be in order. 

 

Motion was made and seconded to approve the President’s report, subject to question.
