REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING MARCH 28, 2002        4:00 P.M.

 

The regular 1st  Shift membership meeting was held on Thursday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m. with Keith Hammond presiding.

 

The 58 members present paid their respects to the flag.

 

Prayer was held for the membership and for the local.

 

A moment of silence was held for two active employees who recently passed away:  Jimmy Gill and Robert Cochaine.

 

Roll call was taken with Chris Algren, Sue Bostwick, Jim Bonner, Dale Shafner, Mark Shinkle and Steve Shope on vacation, and Lester Knight, Rob Hollister, David Land, Brian Lyons, Ken Kuneke absent and Ed Potter and Gary Reagan on sick leave..

 

Motion made and seconded to dispense with the reading of the February membership minutes, subject to question.

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Motion made and seconded to approve the March executive board minutes as read, subject to question.

 

Executive Board Recommendations:

 

Send 4 shop committeemen and the three officers to the Conference Board meeting in Nashville, Tennessee from May 20-24th.

 

Send second rotation of 5 delegates to the division conference in Las Vegas, June 13-20th.

 

Send the Cope Chairman to the Division conference through June 15th to receive an award.

 

Purchase one table at the A Phillip Randolph banquet at a cost of $350.00

 

 

Motion made, seconded and approved to vote on the recommendations separately.

 

Recommendation #1 – approved unanimously.

 

Recommendation #2 50 yes votes and 8 no.

 

Recommendation #3 approved unanimously

 

Recommendation #4  57 yes and 1 no.

 

All recommendations passed.

Dave reported on the fish fry for the American Cancer Society to benefit breast cancer research.  The net profit is $7022.59.

 

Dave reported that he told management that he was going to put out a leaflet telling the employees everything.

 

Reported that Gary Gonnella is the new member of the OET Team.

 

Reported on the new attendance program that management offered the bargaining committee. The committee rejected the program.

 

Reported that we will more than likely have a strike vote around September 16, 2002.

 

Reported that a fellow member of 801 told him that they were running a machine they had an appendix F on. While the machine was running, they send over a millwright and an electrician, told the operator to step away and they shipped it out right then.

 

Dave was asked a question about what would happen if we lose fan clutch.

 

Dave responded that if we lose fan clutch, die cast will die.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, DAVID HILL:

 

Reported that the Delphi pension plan is under funded by 9 billion dollars.

 

Reported to the membership on a meeting with Medicare and about the Medicare website.  The predictions for health care are not positive.  More and more of the cost will be shifted to the employees.  Medicare believes that they can get a handle on health care somewhere in the range of year 2011.

 

Reported on the IUE-CWA Retirement health fare that was held at the convention center on Wednesday, March 27 2002.  It was a learning experience. We had too many speakers for the retirees, who did not have a long attention span for that.

REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT, KEITH HAMMOND:

 

Reported on a COPE meeting we had at District 7 about heading up a campaign for Rick Carne for Congress.

 

Reported on the average corporate fuel economy sheet being passed around by the committeemen.  Those will be sent to local politicians.

 

Reported on AOL. Some of our members have had to pay long distance charges. He now has a 1-800 number for any member being charged long distance.  Also asked AOL if they were tracking our employees and he was told no.

 

Reported on the Appendix F issues.

 

Reported on the District 7 Meeting, where we learned there are 16 Locals in trouble, either being moved or closed.  Local 622 is being purchased by the employees. The name of the company is Lakeshore Frozen foods. They are using the employee stock ownership option and District 7 has put up $250,000 to help them to get off of the ground.

 

Reported on the vacation shutdown from July 1-12.

 

Reported on the Constitution Committee making progress.

 

Reported on a COPE meeting to be held on March 28, 2002 at District 7. 

 

Reported on a Conference call on April 2nd with Ed Fire in regards to the Las Vegas Division Conference.

 

Reported on the Easter party run by the Women’s Committee. It was a great success.

Don Brewer reported for COPE that Local 755 had 6 winners in the District 7 COPE Drawing in Melbourne, Florida.

There is still a locker problem on 3rd shift for the women cleaners. A woman’s coat was stolen.  We need to get this problem worked on.
