REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING OCTOBER 24, 2002       4:00 P.M.

 

The regular 1st shift membership meeting was held on Thursday, October 24 at 4:00 p.m. with Keith Hammond presiding.

 

The 34 members present paid their respects to the flag.

 

Prayer was held for the membership and for the local.

 

Roll call was taken with  Kathy Coleman, Latrice Dewitt, Bryan Lyons, Dan Palmer, Bonnie Sturgill, Ken Luneke, Mark Shinkle, Dwayne Meyers absent.  Jerry Fyffe on sick leave.  Mike Mckenna in training.  Larry Combs on vacation.

 

Motion made and seconded to dispense with the reading of the August membership minutes, subject to question.

 

Motion carried unanimously.

 

Motion made and seconded to approve the October executive board minutes as read, subject to question.

 

Executive Board Recommendations:

 

Recommended approving $5,500 for the children’s Christmas party.

 

Recommended sending the shop committee to the conference board in November.

 

Recommended buying ten tickets at $10 each to the first Local 797 fish fry.


Recommended that the Executive board support Rick Carne for the 3rd Congressional District.

 

Motion was made and seconded to vote as a whole.

 

Motion approved.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, DAVID HILL:

 

Reported on open enrollment starting October 21st, 2002 through November 8th.

 

Reported that we learned at the District 7 meeting that GE is going to target retirees and their health care.

 

Reported that there is a good possibility that we may lose Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an option in the state of Ohio for 2003.

 

Motion made and seconded to approve the executive secretary’s report, subject to question.

REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT, KEITH HAMMOND:

 

Reported that we need volunteers for the phone bank at the AFL-CIO to get people out to vote.

 

Reported on the political workshop that was held here at the Local on Thursday.

 

Reported on the importance of getting out the vote on November 5th.

 

Reported that we have absentee ballots available at the plant.

 

Reported that we will have a list of candidates that the union will endorse.

 

Reported on the October 25th fish fry.

 

Reported on the women’s committee raffle at the fish fry. Money to go to the Christmas party.

 

Motion was made and seconded to approve the President’s report, subject to question.
