REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING SEPTEMBER 23, 2004       4:00 P.M.

 

The regular membership meeting was held on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. with Larry West presiding.

 

The 36 members present paid their respects to the flag.

 

Prayer was held for the membership and for the local.

 

Roll call was taken with all present.

 

Motion made and seconded to dispense with the reading of the August membership minutes, subject to question.

 

Motion carried.

 

Motion made and seconded to approve the September executive board minutes as read, subject to question.

 

Recommendations:

 

Recommended sending the shop committee to the November conference board, Nov,. 8-11.

 

Recommended sending the top three officers and two delegates to the Region 7 meeting in Biloxi, Miss.  November 19-21.

 

Motion was made and seconded to vote on the recommendations as a whole.

 

Motion approved unanimously.

 

Recommendations approved unanimously.

 

Motion was made and seconded to go into a special order of business.

Two gentlemen came in, Marcus Relthford and Michael Levin, campaigning for Jane Mitakides.

REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN, KEITH BAILEY:

 

Reported on the status of the grievance procedure.

Keith reported that we have 23 long term VLO’s.

 

Reported that Joe Campbell met with the bargaining committee and said that he did not foresee any more layoffs in the near future.

 

Reported that one of the purchasers for General Motors, a Mr. Bo Anderson, is willing to listen to Delphi bids for a new suspension line at Truck and Bus. That could mean 1.8 million parts per year for our plant.

 

Reported that he would be meeting with Tim Stuck and they would be making an evaluation as to whether there would be any more long term VLO’s for Skilled Trades.

 

Reported that Paul Hegwood will be traveling to India on Vortex,.  It is not working out as they expected and Paul will be there two to four weeks.

 

George Kleinfelder asked a question about outside contractors disassembling die-cast.


Keith addressed the 159 department quality spill. Someone turned of a coder and they were mislabeled.

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, DAVID HILL:

 

Gave an update on Chiropractor directory and warned the membership that if they go outside the directory, chiropractor bills will not be covered.

 

Also mentioned the up and coming pre-retirement class on December 8th. Second shift will be held at 10 a.m., and first shift at 6 p.m.  We urge everyone who is contemplating retirement to attend and spouses are more than welcome.

REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT, LARRY WEST:

 

Reported that there is no smoking on the office side of the Union hall due to retirees and members coming in with breathing problems.

 

Reported on the IUE-CWA Local 755 Golf outing at Larch Tree on September 25th.  You could win a new car! All funds will go to the Local 755 Christmas fund.

 

Reported that the Local 755 Fish Fry/Monte Carlo will be held on Friday, October 22, 2004.  All proceeds will go towards the Children’s Christmas fund.

 

Larry also reported on the Making Strikes Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, October 23, 2004.  Encouraged everyone to walk or donate.

 

Reported that the flu shots will be Sunday, October 24 at the Union hall.  $13 a shot. Everyone is welcome. 2 -4 p.m.

 

Reported that starting November 4th, the members in the plant will have free shots at medical.

NEW BUSINESS:  It was discussed that Union members are trying to get an all employee get together at Dragon Stadium.

 

The United Way Drive, which was supposed to be Union and management working together. . It didn’t work out well.

 

Everyone was urged to keep John Chambers in their prayers. He was in an automobile accident and is in the hospital. He may have a broken neck.

 

Mike Baab gave some demonstration of the training that is going in the plant.

 

Keith mentioned that Greg Norrod had some SHAININ training to help cut down on scrap.  Under Greg Norrod’s direction, scrap parts in 159 dept went down from 60,000 to 1,200. So he is doing a great job.
